Exhibition: "The bridges of Haute-Savoie, a remarkable heritage to be preserved".

The Conseil Département de la Haute-Savoie, in co-production with the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley, is presenting 12 panels featuring ten or so of these civil engineering structures known as bridges.

Responding to the mobility challenges of a territory, adapted to its geography and climate, bridges are varied and complex infrastructures. Whether concrete or iron, suspension bridges or viaducts, they are part of our remarkable built heritage, highlighted by the European "Save" project.
The Department maintains 1,460 bridges, in other words, the engineering structures in its area. It inventories, inspects, maintains, repairs and rebuilds them, drawing on the expertise of technicians, engineers and architects.
Around ten of these bridges, veritable "works of art", are presented here using contemporary photographs by Pierre Viallet, lithographs from the Department's collections (mountain images collection) and plans held at the Haute-Savoie Departmental Archives. These illustrations are accompanied by comments on the history and environment of these structures, placing them in the context of the emergence of civil engineering.
