Make the most of this yearly celebration of local history to visit Aulps Abbey, free. And this year, thanks to augmented reality, you can also explore the abbey as it was before its destruction. On the programme: the inauguration of the Haut-Chablais Micro-Folie, a conference on Cîteaux illuminations and workshops on orchards.
The former monastic farm building at Aulps Abbey houses a permanent exhibition explaining the daily lives of the monks who lived here in the Middle Ages. The three-hectare estate also houses a medicinal garden, a medieval vegetable plot, a beehive and the splendid ruins of St Marie d’Aulps Cistercian abbey (12th century).
Using our augmented reality Aulps Abbaye 3D app, immerse yourself completely in the estate and discover how the abbey was before it was destroyed in 1823! Wearing a virtual reality headset of using a tablet, visitors are taken straight to the heart of the abbey, to the sounds of the monks’ singing, and see the monastic buildings as they were.
